While some people like to save their money in a piggy bank, others utilize it to make amazing things. Shay Rose (aka Crescent Shay) utilized nearly 2,000 pennies to create her latest handcrafted garment: a dazzling cocktail dress with cross-back straps and a fringed bottom.

The 22-year-old maker is well-known for her creative endeavors on social media (including her transformative green screen dress). Shay gathered hundreds of pennies for this project, which she then cleaned well and punched holes in along the sides. This enabled her to sew the copper pieces together to form the dress’s bodice and skirt.

Shay shared photographs of the finished garment on Instagram, highlighting the gleaming impact of the coins in the sunlight. The 2,652 pennies merge together to give a sequined look when viewed from afar. When you examine the gown closely, you can see Shay’s great attention to detail in weaving all of the coins together in a nice chainmail pattern. The striking gown might easily be mistaken for a 1920s outfit from The Great Gatsby.
