Artists are able to recognize the beauty in even the most little things. They don’t view things as they are, but rather how they can be altered with a few brush strokes and a few colors. Tom Bob, for example, has been using strange spots of the roadway as a canvas on which to show his creative talent.
A manhole cover becomes a tasty pepperoni pizza for him, as well as a frying pan, an Oreo cookie, a compass, a smashed turtle, and a crocodile escape path. It’s all about discovering possibilities and changing an urban scene into colorful personalities or things for him as an artist.
“My objective is to turn everyday things into delightful whimsical characters that evoke feelings of happiness and wonder,” Tom Bob adds. This is the emotion he has been able to elicit in others. It’s amazing to watch how these odd-looking items that go ignored so often may change into his imagination.
